Finally at the bottom of the page, click-on "Printer Software Installation for Windows _ ", or the "Download" option button. Follow the directions and read all the available information concerning your systems driver downloads. Once the "DOWNLOAD PAGE" opens, read the INFORMATION to locate your particular SYSTEM and then click-on it. Look under the "Ink Jet Printers" for your "Epson Stylus Photo 1280" and click-on it. Look under "DRIVERS AND SUPPORT" and then click-on "DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS". "DEINSTALL" your old drivers/printer first and then go to the "EPSON.COM" web-site.

Bad or corrupted drivers can cause many problems. As drivers are FREE, I usually recommend trying those first if you have a possible communication problem. They state on their web-site, that they "will respond via e-mail within 1 business day".Other than that you can always deinstall and delete your printer and its drivers off your computer system and then go on-line to EPSON.COM and download new Printer Drivers. If no one else is able to help you either, you can always e-mail the "Epson Technical Support Department", for possible help or advice, at and then click-on "Proceed With E-Mail". Sounds like a possible software problem, or a problem in the settings for the software that you are printing from.
I had people report that once the cartridges are recognized using the Win's 98 Computer System, the printer can then be hooked back-up to the Win's XP Computer System and the ink error problem is no longer present.Good Luck! Denny Conwayĭorine: I don't know what your problem actually is, but my guess is that its an actual problem in your Computer System, rather than a problem in your printer. Windows 98 has been reported to be a system that allows the ink cartridges to be correctly installed, sometimes even Non-Epson Ink Cartridges, that may not normally be recognized correctly by your printer, when using Wins XP, or possibly some other operating systems. It seems that Win's XP may cause more ink errors or problems when installing new ink cartridges, especially when using Non-Epson Ink Cartridges, that are not always accepted by an Epson Printer. Unfortunatly, that is usually not practical, unless you know someone that has the same printer or uses the same cartridge in their printer.FOURTH: If your printer is connected to a Win's XP Operating System, some people have reported that when they hook up their printer to a different Computer System, with a different Operating System, the ink cartridges seem to be able to be correctly installed, with no problems. Use new dry Q-Tips to dry off all the electrical contacts after cleaning.THIRD: The only way to really eliminate a possible bad cartridge, is to actually replace it, or test it in another printer that uses the same cartridge and was working ok with its own cartridges installed.
Its best to use "Distilled Water", because it has less chemicals and minerals in it, than tap water and regular tap water can actually cause additional problems. Using damp Q-tips, gently and carefully wipe off the copper colored electrical plates on the cartridges and the electrical contacts inside the holder assy. Its possible that the electrical contacts, or the Electrical Chip on the ink cartridge, or the electrical contacts inside the Print Cartridge Holder Assembly, may simply be dirty. Simply try cleaning all the electrical contacts carefully and gently, with Distilled Water on Q-Tips or on a lint free rag. Check for an e-mail from me, with some additional info on Non-Epson Ink Cartridges.Second: As far as the printer not recognizing the installed ink cartridges. Sometimes you will even get Error Messages up on your Monitors screen, telling you that you are actually using a Non-Epson Ink Cartridge, or that your printer cannot recognize the cartridge that you installed. Its even possible that Non-Epson Ink Cartridges may not always be recognized by the newer models of Epson Printers, because of the electrical chips mounted on the cartridges. Epson Ink Jet Style Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks. First: Be sure you have the correct New Epson Color Ink Cartridge and that you remembered to remove the pull tape off the top of the new ink cartridge. If the red Ink Light/Led for the color cartridge is on SOLID, then your printer is in an add ink condition. Kevin: The "1280" is a good printer and other than normal cleaning, I have not seen many actual problems.
